AstroTurf® is a registered trademark often misused as a general term to describe artificial grass. This is a common misunderstanding prevalent in several industries and is known as a genericised trademark. Other examples include Xerox, Sellotape, Hoover, Kleenex, Frisbee and now astro turf.
