Synthetic Grass Quality

Astro turf quality is determined by a number of factors. It is important to compare your requirements against each type of synthetic grass to ensure your selection is suitable. For instance, the desirable attributes of grass used in sports would differ from that used in your garden. This page will consider various synthetic grass properties. to help you come to a conclusion.

Once you have considered all these points, you should request a small astro turf sample from one of our recommended suppliers to finalise your evaluation.

Astro Turf Colours

The colour of your turf can be modified for sports purposes or in an effort to achieve realism. Simple colours are also available to meet lower budgets. The synthetic grass colour should therefore be dependant on its application and your cash allocation.

Two-tone grass products are available for your garden to provide a more realistic artificial lawn. Although two-tone is more expensive, it produces a far higher quality result.

Line markings and colour variances can be applied to synthetic grass for use in sports. Astro turf can thus prove to be a very practical long-term solution.

Pile Height

Artificial lawns for your garden would usually benefit from a medium pile height of about 20mm. This attribute would be of more concern when the synthetic grass is used for sports.

A low pile height of about 7mm would be used for cricket to allow for consistent match play. Putting greens would require an even lower pile for the golf ball to roll accurately on the turf.

Football and similar sports benefit from synthetic grass with a larger pile height of up to 40mm. This reduces ware on the pitch and lessens the likelihood of friction burns if a player were to fall over.

Grass Blade Density

A high density of synthetic grass blades gives a more impressive result but your costs will increase as a result. It may be beneficial to view product photo galleries when deciding which astro turf is suitable for your needs.

Base Infill For Synthetic Grass

Either sand infill or rubber infill astro turf products are available from any good supplier. Although sand infill is a superior product for normal usage, rubber infill is essential for use in sports.

Sand should be selected for a no maintenance and clean artificial lawn. The rubber infill is required in sports for better synthetic grass padding. The disadvantage is loss of rubber, which can cause a mess and needs to be replenished over time.
